I was so impressed with the prints created at my beginners Lino Print Workshop last weekend. It's always a pleasure to see the participants get stuck in with a brand new creative process and their enthusiasm through out the day was wonderful.
We started the morning with a brief introduction to the lino printing process and I showed a selection of works by relif printmakers to provide some inspiration for their own designs.
Many had brought sketches or photos with them to work from whilst others found imagery on their phones to draw from.
Once the drawings had been transferred onto the lino blocks we then went over the next stage which would be to start carving the designs. It can take some time and a bit of practice when using the sharp carving tools but everyone embraced this part of the process and set to work, slowly and carefully cutting and marking their blocks.
After a short lunch break we moved onto the final stage of printing the linocuts. I ran through a few different methods for printing at home with out a press and participants tried out spoons, barens and rollers. I then did a quick demo on how to use the Pookie tabletop press. The class sprung to life once more and before I knew it rollers of ink were hissing over the lino blocks and revealing the wonderful designs that had been carved.
The class created a wonderful range of lino prints to take away with them and also their lino blocks which can be used again for future craft projects.
This was my first beginners Lino Print Workshop and I look forward to running some more of these print sessions later in the year.
